KMC Z510, 1/8"

Sold out

- Good quality chain from KMC, at a great price!
- Advised for use on single speed set ups.
- 8.6mm pin width.
- Three piece split link included, but we don't recommend using these on a trials bike.
- 1200kg maximum load capacity, making it ideal for trials.
- Available in Silver or Gold.
- Weight: 368g (100 links, full length).

Additional Information

Due to the high loads that trials riding places on chains, we recommend replacing them at least every 3 months. Regular lubrication is also essential to ensure good function, including prevention of stiff links.

hey will this be compatible with the V!Z Sevety two?

Hi Lewis - All the chains we stock on our website will work fine with the V!Z Seventy Two freewheel, including the Z510. Thanks, Mark

So I feel like I'm going to buy an Inspired Element frame, would this chain fit or would it depend on what rear sprocket I get for the frame? If it does need a particular sprocket, which would it be? I'm not too good at mechanics.

Hi Jake - thanks for your question. The width of chain does affect which sprockets you can use, but this is the wider of the two most common widths so will work with any sprockets we sell. This chain combined with any sprocket you choose will work perfectly with that frame. Hope that helps. Thanks, Flipp.

Hi,Tartybikes i have i question. Would it be possible for me to use a two-generated, DMR single speed kit 16t and mtb FC-M4050 cranks 22t chainring? I used single speed gear and i will use chain tensioner

Hello - If you're using a chain tensioner that contacts the chain (Rather than chain tugs or similar), we'd recommend a KMC Z610 HX 3/32" chain as this will give better clearance. Some chain tensioners can handle 1/8" chains, but for the most part you'll run into problems with the pins rubbing on the inside of the tensioner. Thanks, Mark

Hi, will It fix on my ozonys Smith??

Hi Ander - This chain should fit your Ozonys fine. Thanks, Mark

Kaarel Urva

hey! Is there any big diffrences between this chain and the HX model? Thanks!

Posted by Kaarel Urva on 11/07/2011

Hi Kaarel - The 'HX' version is heat treated, which makes the chain more 'stretchproof'. The overall strength should be very similar between the two. Thanks, Mark

Hi Luke - This chain should fit your Onza cranks fine. Thanks, Mark

Ann Slater

is there any specific tool that is needed to install or is it just a split link?

Hello - A BMX chain tool should do the trick nicely. You can join the chain with split link if you prefer, but to get the chain to your desired length you'd need to use the chain tool to split it. Thanks, Mark

pero car

can i this chain fit on trial tech chain tensioner for lenght? i have kmc710 i tried to fit that one cant pass so im here to ask can this one kmc z510 fit in chain tensioner perfectly without any issues

Posted by pero car on 24/03/2015

Reply from TartyBikes on 25/03/2015

Hi Pero - thanks for your question. This tensioner works best with a 3/32" chain. With this Z510, it will work but touch the sides just a little. If you want to use a 1/8" chain it can be made to work by placing a washer between the jockey wheel and the cages. Thanks, Flipp.

Jack Robertson

hi i just bought my first trials bike and the chain snapped and I'm not sure what kind of chain to buy

Hi Jack - Either the KMC Z610 HX or Z510 HX would be a good one to go for. The 'HX' means they're the upgraded version of the chain, so although they're a little more expensive than the non-HX versions they do tend to last a lot longer. If you're unsure whether you need a 1/8" or 3/32" thickness chain, I would recommend going for the KMC Z610 HX 3/32" chain as it's compatible with the majority of bikes. Thanks, Mark

Hi Daniel - The Z-series chains do work really well - it's good to hear you're happy with them too. Thanks for the review!

Fitted this to my bike today and within 5 minutes off ridding it snapped.

Reply from TartyBikes on 12/07/2012

Hi James - These chains have a very large breaking load so I'd be pretty surprised if the chain managed to snap by shearing a plate or anything like that, especially when it's new! How did the chain break? If a side plate appears to have 'peeled' off the chain then it sounds like it may have been an issue with the way it was joined. From our experience any chain that fails that soon after being installed is generally an issue with how it was fitted rather than the chain itself, especially with a chain as reliable as the 510.

great chain, wont break for a long time!!! you must be doing something wrong if it breaks within a month or so!

Brilliant Value

Posted by David on 28/08/2012

Seems tough so far and has already lasted me longer than the more expensive Sram 8spd I bought from elsewhere. I think I will stick with KMC from now on. Only thing is there seems to be more travel, as in side to side, than my old chain but hey, I'm not complianing its still a good product!

Reply from TartyBikes on 28/08/2012

Hi David - It's good to hear your new chain's lasting well! Thanks for the review.
