Racing Line Piston

Sold out

  • Replacement 14mm piston.
- CNC machined aluminium piston to fit Racing Line, Magura and Echo hydraulic rim brake levers (not slave cylinders).
- Being made from aluminium means the brake can be water-bled with no "swelling" issues, as found with nylon pistons.
- Features twin O-rings rather than the usual O-ring and dust seal combination.
- Available in anodised red or black.
- Fitment with a light smearing of silicone grease on the seal is recommended. Please note that other greases and lubricants can cause the rubber seal to deform.
- 14mm diameter (sizing refers to the diameter of the main body of the piston).
- Sold singly.
- A standard Magura spring does not fit over the lip on this piston, we can machine it down for you from 9.3mm to 8.5mm if you add this product to your basket too: Racing Line Piston Machining.
- Weight: 4.5g

Please note: These pistons will not work with 2004 (or earlier) Magura HS11 brakes with a 16mm piston.

Additional Information

Will not fit Clean or Racing Line Nano levers that feature 13mm pistons.

Questions

Charles

Does this piston work with Echo disc and rim brake levers?

Posted by Charles

Reply from TartyBikes

Hi Charles!
These pistons will fit Echo rim brake levers that require a 14mm piston, but it'd be worth double checking yours use that diameter piston.
It won't work with Echo's disc levers as they will generally use a smaller diameter piston. I would recommend measuring the diameter of the piston in your lever to make sure.

JOSE

Hi I get two 14mm of these pistons and also racing line springs for my 2005 HS33. When you push the lever, the piston don't come back again to the origin position, what is the reason? I lubed it when fitting and don't understand why the lever don't work Thank you

Hi Jose - Can you e-mail us with some more details/photos please? If you can let us know which type of lube you used that would be great. Thanks, Mark

Joci

Hi. In Racing line brakes, this piston is very tight, slow. I use Shimano oil. What could be the problem?

Reply from TartyBikes

Hi Joci - Did you lubricate the piston before you fitted it? If not, that can make it have that tight, sticky feeling. My suggestion would be to the strip the lever down and check that everything is assembled correctly and also lubricated correctly when re-installed. Doing this should hopefully show you if there are any problems with setup. Thanks, Mark

What size of piston do I need for a Standard 2005 Magura HS33 lever ?

Posted by David Moffitt

Reply from TartyBikes

Hi David - those levers use the 14mm piston. Thanks, Flipp.

Nico

Hello. Will this fit the new Echo SL lever as well?

Hi Nico - thanks for your question. These should fit that brake just fine. Thanks, Flipp.

Will the race line piston fit in the hs33 rim brakes

Posted by Joshua

Reply from TartyBikes

Hi Joshua - thanks for your question. This will fit in HS33 brakes just fine. Thanks, Flipp.

Marcus

Hi, I have one of these pistons and for some reason some of the anodised painty has rubbed off ?why this ? And could it leak ?

Posted by Marcus

Reply from TartyBikes

Hi Marcus - thanks for your question. The anodising will eventually rub off simply because the piston is moving back and forth against other surfaces. It will not cause the system to leak. The O-ring creates the seal, not the body of the piston body. Hope that helps. Thanks, Flipp.

Matt

you say this piston wont fit pre 2004 HS11 brakes, does this apply to 2004 HS33 racelines?

Posted by Matt

Reply from TartyBikes

Hi Matt - no, this does not apply to those brakes. These pistons will work fine with all 2004, 2005, 2011 and 2014 HS33s. Thanks, Flipp.

Echo TR lever leaking solved

Posted by Antonio

Got the same known problem with Echo TR disc brake lever leaking. The original plastic piston wasn't sealing, and after only 6 months of use. The Racing Line piston solved the problem. Perfectly fit the lever, no more leaking and the same smoothness. Thank you guys from Tarty.

Andy

Very good.

Posted by Andy

A bit of a task fitting and adjusting this but once fitted and used alongside a Racing Line TPA kit provides a firmer and more comfortable feeling. The double seals are more than enough to prevent fluid leaking under pressure and the alloy won't suffer the same stress as Maguras standard plastic piston (mine cracked hence the replacement).

Reply from TartyBikes

Hi Andy - thanks for your review, and we're glad you're happy with your purchase. From our experience, the brake will likely feel firmer because of the fresh bleed rather than the piston itself. Thanks again, Flipp.
