TartyBikes Star Nut

Extra Large (26mm)
Large (23.5mm)
Medium (21mm)
Small (18mm)

Sold out

- Replacement star fangled nut for use inside fork steerer tubes to allow pre-load of headset bearings.
- Standard M6 x 1.0 thread.
- Available in various sizes: Extra Large (26mm diameter), Large (23.5mm diameter), Medium (21.0mm diameter) and Small (18.0mm diameter).
- To check which size you need, measure the internal diameter of your steerer and choose a star nut that's 1-3mm larger than that size.
- Extra Large generally fit 1 1/8" steel steerers, Large 1 1/8" standard alloy steerers, Medium are for use in Echo 1 1/8" alloy steerers and Small ideal for Inspired Fourplay or Team/Trialtech Sport forks..
- Sold singly.

Please note that star nuts are designed to be a tight fit so they don't pull back out when you tighten your headset. We strongly recommend using a star nut setting tool for fitting, or alternatively you can screw a bolt into the thread and then carefully tap the bolt to install. Damage to the star nut during fitting is not covered under warranty as these do not 'just fall apart'! Similarly, the warranty does not cover instances where the headset top cap bolt has been overtightened.

If you are buying forks and a star nut and would like us to fit it for you, add a Star Nut Fitting workshop item to your basket.

Additional Information

Small star nut differs cosmetically from pictured.

Hi, which star nut would fit inside the end of the my handle bars?

Posted by Nathan on 15/08/2016

Reply from TartyBikes on 17/08/2016

Hi Nathan - That would depend on the type of bars you're using, as they use slightly different wall thickness. The easiest way to check would be to measure the inside of the end of your bars, and see which size it correlated to best. I would expect it to be around the size of the Medium star nut roughly. Thanks, Mark

Luke butkinshaw

My trials bikes forks are 17.9 mm which one would fit better the 18mm or the 21mm.Thank you

Reply from TartyBikes on 02/11/2016

Hi Luke - To be on the safe side, and to ensure the star nut grips your steerer tube well, I'd recommend going for the 21mm size as it should mean the tabs bend up more and grip the inner wall better. Thanks, Mark

J. Fisher

Any chance you have a star nut to receive an M10 x1.25? Thx

Hello - the star nuts we have are only compatible with M6 bolts. The closest we have to what you're looking for would be something like the Gusset Hollow Star Nut Kit (Product code: 11013). Thanks, Mark

Which star nut goes in a standard echo m5 lite

Posted by Alick on 02/05/2018

Reply from TartyBikes on 03/05/2018

Hi Alick - If it's the Mk5, you would ideally need the Medium star nut. The Medium is a relatively tight fit so you need to be careful installing it (the Small is much too small). Thanks, Mark

Tobias Olsson

Hey! What size for the Echo Sl 26 fork ?

Posted by Tobias Olsson on 27/03/2017

Reply from TartyBikes on 27/03/2017

Hi Tobias - That will depend on the year of SL fork as they have used different sizes. If you are able to measure the inside of your steerer tube and match it to the closest star nut size we supply it should work well. Thanks, Mark

Posted by thomas hall on 19/01/2016

Hi Thomas - A Medium star nut should do the trick for most years of Echo Urban fork, although to double check you can always measure the inner diameter of your steerer tube and compare it to our star nut sizes. Thanks, Mark

Again just an odd little sod that you need. :D Thanks guys!!

Reply from TartyBikes on 23/02/2012

Hi Callum - It is handy having the sizes needed for trials forks - they can sometimes be pretty tricky to get hold of from regular shops due to them being an odd size. Thanks for the review!
