Questions

Daan

What's the width of the handlebar clamp of this stem? I'm a fairly heavy rider, around 92 kg, and use a fairly wide 760 mm bar. My new BBB BHS25 stem creaks and clicks like mad when doing front wheel rotational stuff. It's coming from the handlebar clamp area, which also gives some loud clicks when you undo the face plate bolts. Bolts are not over or undertightened and greased up properly, and steerer and handlebar interface are thinly layered with carbon friction paste. Anyway, would this stem be any better quality with more clamping area than the BBB? The Hope stem is unfortunately not tall and long enough.

Hi Daan!
The widest point of the bar clamp is 40mm.
Regarding your current stem creaking, we have found in the past that putting a dab of grease underneath the heads of the bolts can help alleviate this to an extent. However, in our experience using Fiber Grip/carbon friction paste will generally create more noise from the bar clamp area in use. Another possible solution is to sand the edges of the bar clamp area a little just to take the edge off the clamping surface. This may help reduce noise but should also improve bar longevity, especially if your bars are have a little more flex due to their extra width.
The BBB stems have been dependable and reliable for the riders we know who use them so we'd be surprised if yours was broken or had any problems. Although they're relatively inexpensive they're still great quality.

David Armstrong

Hi , looking to buy this stem but want to order some TI bolts at the same time what’s the bolt sizes on this stem (80mm stem ) so I can purchase at the same time cheers David

Hi David - For the steerer clamp you'd require M5x15 bolts, and M6x20 for the steerer bolts. Thanks, Mark

Parkee

What size bolts does this stem use?

Posted by Parkee

Reply from TartyBikes

Hi Parker - The different length and angle stems use slightly different bolts to each other. If you can let us know which stem in particular you're looking at, we'll do our best to help. Thanks, Mark

Kit

Hello, What is the advantages and disadvantages of a 80mm x 40˚ in a street 24 trial bikes.(especially in fourplay pro) Thanks

Posted by Kit

Reply from TartyBikes

Hi Kit - The 80mm x 40° stem is designed to be a middleground between the 90mm x 35° and 70mm x 35° stems that most riders run. The 80mm x 40° stem gives the bar height of the 90mm stem, but the shorter reach you'd associate with a 70mm stem. This works well for frames with steep head angles such as the Arcade, but on the Fourplay Pro both the 90mm and 80mm stems would work well. If you feel like you'd like to make your bike a little shorter (typically making it better for manuals, bunnyhops and spins) then you can put a shorter stem on, but if you'd like to help make it better for trials moves the longer 90mm stem will help. Thanks, Mark

Sharon raine

Will the 90mm fit an Onza RIP 20", I need to shorten the reach for my boy. Thanks

Hi Sharon - yes, that would fit your bike perfectly. Thanks, Flipp.

Gavin Watt

When will the 90mm x 35° stem be back in stock, and if you're unsure could you e-mail me when it's available again, Thanks

Hi Gavin - thanks for your question. Our suppliers are out of stock so we cannot buy any more right now. It will likely be at least a couple of months before we can get any. We have a welded alternative available if it is the geometry you want: http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?product_id=10461 We have a system that will automatically send you emails about products coming back into stock if you ask it to. Just below the box with the geometry options and price details is a link saying "Contact me when back in stock." Click that, tick the box of the right stem and insert your email address and you will have a stock reminder set up. You can do this for any product. Hope that helps. Thanks, Flipp.

Johan

Hello, is this the stem Danny MacAskill uses on his Drop and Roll Tour?; here's a picture for example: http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/77790000/jpg/_77790043_77790039.jpg Is it the Trialtech Sport, 90mm x 35˚? And how would this fit my Inspired Arcade Handlebars and the old Inspired Skye Orange fork? Does stem rings follows if you buy the stem? Thanks, Johan

Reply from TartyBikes

Hi Johan - thanks for your question. Yes, we're reasonably confident the stem in that picture is the 90mm x 35°. It will fit your forks and handlebars just fine. Thanks, Flipp.

Joe

Will this stem work with a thicker handlebar? i.e. a 31.8mm clamp area?

Reply from TartyBikes

Hi Joe - this stem will work perfectly with 31.8mm clamp bars. Thanks, Flipp.

Reply from TartyBikes

Hi Ash - Trialtech make a lot of stems, and all of them seem to be very good at what they do. Their forged models in particular! I'm glad it helped improve your ride, and thanks for the review.
