Questions

Nic Daley

Hi, I'm after a long and steep angled stem for my triathlon bike and came across this. What diameter steerer tube and handlebar will this stem fit. I'm after a stem for a 1 1/8in steerer tube and 31.8mm handlebar. Thanks

Hi Nic - Unless otherwise stated, all of our stems fit 1 1/8" steerer forks, and 31.8mm bars. Thanks, Mark

Joe Cheng

Excuse me. I'm 5ft10 and riding a 20" bike that have +75mm rise BB height, 345mm RC, 990mm wheel base, 71 degrees headtube angle and with a 155mm/30degrees stem. I felt the stem is too short when I was doing back-wheel-hop. Which stem will you recommend within your storage? 170mm, 175mm, 180mm or other length?

Reply from TartyBikes

Hi Joe - There is no "right" length as riders have individual preferences, with most riders tending to prefer shorter stems around 150mm long. On my own 20" bike I always used a 180mm stem, and Adam (who owns TartyBikes) always uses longer stems too. The only real way to find out is to try one - I would think that a 170mm or 175mm would be enough though, as we tend to find that it's usually riders 6ft or over who prefer longer stems than that. 35 of rise should be ideal for you. Thanks, Mark

Will this stem be compatible with my onza pro steerer tube and my Jitsie Alloy Riser bars?

Hi Levi - This should work fine with your Onza forks and Jitsie bars. Thanks, Mark

michael crawley

hi there would this stem fit a onza sting trials bikes because I'm not sure what would fit it

Hi Michael - This stem should fit the Sting fine. If you're looking to make the bike feel longer/bigger, either the 135mm or 150mm stems would be a good stem up in terms of length. Thanks, Mark

Would this stem fit an echo kid spec as mine is getting to short

Hi Joe - The Jitsie stems should fit your Echo fine. Thanks, Mark

Hi I'm about 5'6 and ride a adamant a3 with echo tr 150mm stem and echo flat bars should I get a shorter or longer or higher stem

Hi Andrew - That's tricky to say without knowing what you'd like to get out of your bike. One thing that I think would make more difference to you than the stem is to switch to a pair of riser bars. These are much more comfortable than flat bars, have a little extra height so can help make your bike easier to bunnyhop, and can also allow you to have a wider range of setup options than flat bars. The Echo TR stem at 150mm is probably a fairly good length for that bike so I don't think you'd necessarily need to change it. Thanks, Mark

erik

Would the 150mm stem be a good fit for someone who is 6'1" on a 26" bike with a low bb? I have an 04 or an 05 echo pure and I think the bb is +10 or +20. I'd like to be able to get comfortable hopping on the rear wheel but my current stems feel too crampt. I have a 90mm x 25 degree and a 120 x 10 degree stem. The 120 is definetly a step up but I want to try something longer. I'm wondering about the high angle of this Jitsie stem, though. Thanks!

Hi Erik - The 150mm stem could work, although I think it might hinder you for some moves as it will skew the feel of the bike. The 135mm stem might be a good compromise. The extra rise (35) compared to your 120mm stem should help open up the cockpit of your bike a little, but won't make the front end of the bike feel overly long. The bars you run will make a difference too. If they're relatively low rise, a switch to some higher rise bars could help as it will gain you a bit more height and reach depending on the angle you set them at. The extra leverage you get from them will make some moves much easier too. Thanks, Mark

SkyCrawler ..

Hi there, i am new in this trail business, and would like to know what size of stem i need if i am 6 ft and what is difference if you have bigger or smaller and what is better taller or shorter?

Hello - Without knowing which type of bike you are riding it's impossible to say what would be 'best', sorry! If you are riding a 20", 24" or 26" trials bike then due to the high bottom bracket most frames now have a taller stem (130mm or more) is generally better. For a 24" or 26" street trials bike, using a shorter stem (so between 70-90mm long) is best. Thanks, Mark

Hi I have an Onza Genesis 26" with the standard Tensile 120mm 30 degree stem and riser bars. I'm 6' 2" and this is far too low for me. Would you recommend the Jitsie stem in 150mm reach or 180, as I can't decide. Thanks in advance. Sam Gent

Hi Sam - I'd recommend the 150mm version out of the two - a 150x30 stem is a pretty common option for most high BB 26" bikes as it helps bring the front end up without making the reach of the front end overly long. A 180mm would probably make the bike handle quite strangely. Thanks, Mark

Excellent built quality! Looks great on my bike and the extra torque and control over the back wheel took my riding to the next level!

Sweet Spot

Posted by Charles

This riser with the Arcade bars on my 2014 Inspired Element put me in the zone. With the most gentle rock forward, I can lean back and be up stable on my rear wheel. I can finally rear wheel hop, mount large landscaping rocks and even picnic tables. I can even wheelie 100 yards at a time. I am 6'3" and weigh 240#. At speed, handling is wobbly and you have to be careful because it is easy to flop over. You get a lot of variability in the handling dynamics just by rotating the bars forward or backward. With some play, I was able to find a sweet spot. I use these mostly for riding close to home where there are some pretty cool obstacles. I switch to a shorter riser for rides of any distance or rides in the woods. Service at Tarty Bikes is second to none. I had these in hand 36 hours after ordering. The technical advice is also great. They very accurately predicted how this riser would perform for me and appropriately cautioned me about handling at speed - very insightful and spot on accurate.
