Heatsink Ultralight Tensioner

Updated lightweight tensioner from Heatsink!

  • Unique 'problem solver' design.
  • Made in the UK.
  • Keep breaking mech hangers? This is for you...
- New and improved, the Heatsink Ultralight Tensioner - made here in the U.K.!
- Simple design means no need for a mech hanger as well as keeping the tensioner itself further out of harms way.
- Aluminium body saves weight over previous steel versions whilst remaining nice and tough.
- Spring now mounts at 45 to the body rather than 90. This improves the clearance over the top half of the chain, meaning you don't need to overtension the spring to make it fit whilst also looking more sleek.
- Slotted mounting point for the spring arrangement allows easy chainline adjustment using a 3mm allen key and an 8mm spanner.
- This new version features a jockey wheel, making the action smoother and quieter, whilst also being even less inclined to 'jump' off the chain than the earlier models.
- Tension is now provided by a single, thicker spring.
- Although it features a range of adjustment, this tensioner is not compatible with all setups. In general, it should only be used with rear sprockets that are 15T and over to ensure enough contact between the chain and rear sprocket, but if you're unsure whether it will work with your bike, feel free to contact us for information.
- A bold Heatsink logo on the carbon fibre effect side panels helps finish the look of the tensioner off nicely.
- Please refer to the Additional Information for setup and warranty information.
- Weight: 56.5g

Additional Information

Please note that we recommend double wheel tensioners for 15T and smaller rear sprockets. This is to ensure a healthy amount of chain wrap and help to eliminate the chance of the chain skipping. It is possible to fit these tensioners with sprockets under 15t, although that will require a setup that has a good amount of chain wrap and a small modification to the tensioner springs.

Bending the tensioner springs is not covered under warranty. The springs only require a gentle curve to maintain suitable tension, therefore deliberately bending the springs to gain more tension (bending the springs can actually lead to a reduction in tension) or over-tensioning the springs will invalidate the warranty.

Great solution for a chain tensioner for bikes without a hanger

Posted by Roy

Brought this item arrived before time. A great solution. If I had the time I would have built the tensioner myself as it's so simple. the spring is a hacksaw blade trimmed down but does the job perfectly. Saw this product watching Ali Clarkson's recent build of one of his bikes, he pointed me here. one thing I would say is that the spring retaining bolt is quite hard to adjust on a single-speed bike unless you have an Allen key ratchet, normal Allen keys won't fit into the space between the frame and the tensioner. But apart from that excellent. if there is no other solution.
