Session breakdown
These sessions are aimed at novice riders who want to give trials a go! We'll be focussing on basic techniques with some skills practice and teaching some fundamental trials skills. You don't need to be an expert rider to attend, just have some basic bike riding ability! The sessions are ideal for children and adults but we please ask that any child under the age of 16 is accompanied by an adult or guardian.
Sessions will be held on our outdoor area as pictured if the weather is behaving! If not we have an indoor area too inside the warehouse which can use if needed.
Sessions will break down as follows:
6:10pm to 6:15pm - Rider brief and warm up
We'll give you a brief overview of what we're planning for this session and some quick warm up exercises to get you loose and ready to ride!
6:15 - 7:00pm - Skills practice
We'll be setting out exercises, courses and obstacles suitable for all levels of ability to teach a variety of bike handling skills and trials techniques. The focus will be on very basic bike handling skills and balance, so don't worry if you're new to trials or riding generally, we won't be asking you to do huge drops or gaps! As sessions progress, we will work with you to develop your skills at your own pace and teach you useful techniques to benefit your riding generally and introduce you to trials riding.
Young children will benefit from years of collective riding experience to teach them important bike handling techniques and control for safer riding and more fun out on the bike!
7:00pm - 7:30pm - Free ride
Now you're limber with some practice and knowledge under your belt, we'll let you loose on the full trials area! There will be sections marked out for all abilities and we'll introduce you to the word of competitive trials riding. This is an easy and fun end to the session with no rules and a 'have a go' atmosphere.
What to bring with you
We'll be providing refreshments on the evening of juice, water and some biscuits too. There are a few things you will need to bring with you, however!
1 - Helmet for every rider - A must, we won't let you ride without one. We have a handful of demo helmets to loan if you need one.
2 - A bike! - We recommend a mountain bike if you have one, but any safe bike to ride that you can manoeuvre confidently will do. We have a limited number of demo trials bikes we can loan. These will be loaned on a first come, first served basis, so if you would like to borrow one please get in touch before you arrive at the session.
3 -General personal protection (optional) - Sessions will be taking place predominantly on concrete, which is ideal for grip and control but is unforgiving if you fall. Everything will be very slow speed, so crashes are rare, but elbow, knee and shin pads are a good idea especially for younger children.
Love it and want to ride more?
Then come and ride with the TNT group! We're a friendly trials group of mixed ability local to the Preston area that meet on Tuesdays through the month to ride at various spots around the North West. If you want to put your new skills to the test, we'd be happy for you to tag along and meet some of the local riders and get to know the best trials spots in the area.
Rides are organised on our Facebook group here - this is a private group, so just request to join, and the admin will add you for the latest updates on TNT rides and events.
