Trialtech Fork Product Recall
We have received the below information from Trialtech. This only refers to the Sport Lite 26" HS33 fork. No other model is affected.
If you have 26" Sport Lite HS33 forks which have been purchased from us, please get in touch if you have any questions.
Update 2:10pm: The offer of a refund or replacement items is open until the end of April 2014, no matter how old your forks are at this date. Once the end of April 2014 has passed, any forks older than the normal 6 month warranty period will not qualify for the recall scheme.
We understand if you wish to continue to use the fork should you have had no problems so far, but we must stress that this would be at your own risk. Your 6 month warranty period is unaffected either way.
"Dear Trialtech Dealer,
We have become aware of a performance and strength concern regarding the Sport Lite 26" HS33 forks. In certain situations the forks have shown significantly less durability than was ever seen during any stage of the 2 years of testing this model underwent before final production started (either during extensive industry standard testing or in use by some of the top riders in the World). This situation requires all customers who purchased one of these products to be contacted immediately. All forks that remain unsold in your stock should be removed from sale immediately to help avoid any further problems for customers.
The concern in question relates to the strength of the leg tubes directly around the brake mounts. Only a very small number of cases of failure have been reported so far but we want to take this urgent action immediately to prevent any riders sustaining injuries or damage to their bike should the fork fail during use.
Of course a full refund or discount on your next order (available for use on any Trialtech products, not only Sport Lite forks) will be issued to all dealers for the cost of these forks and we request that you pass on a full refund to the customers affected. However, refunds can only be issued once we have received photo evidence that the forks have been destroyed by cutting through the middle of one leg so that the dropout and lower leg is separated from the fork. This is absolutely essential if you wish to receive a refund / credit, to ensure that the forks cannot continue to be used.
We are extremely sorry for this situation and any inconvenience it causes our customers and in particular the riders who have put their trust in our products. We do not take this action lightly as I am sure you can appreciate, but when there are concerns that the performance and safety of one of our products has fallen short of the high standards we aim to provide then we hope you will understand our concerns and support us in undertaking the action we feel is necessary.
