Can be used on the rear as long as you have a hub with standard 1.37" x 24 tpi thread.
Always ensure the lockring is kept tight, failure to do so may limit chances of any warranty replacement being issued. If you need help with how to do this then just give us a call.
These freewheels may appear to 'rattle' from new - this is down to the bearing system. It would be possible to add an extra bearing in and stop the rattle, however this would then cause the freewheel to lock up!
Can be removed with this tool, you do not need the specific Echo tool however it does fit a little better.

Good and Bad

Great freewheel, the loudest one I have personaly owned. However, Im not sure if i got a bad one or maybe I didnt bed it in as thorough or as well as I could have but afer 2 months it started to skip engagements alot. I flushed it out with some GT85 to see if it might help but realised there was several things rattling around inside of it. I opened it up to see and there was a few little stones and grissles in it. I flushed it again but when It still seems to skip alot, I decided to soak it in a small bowl of petrol with cling film over it for a week or so and bought a White Industries ENO Trials which is a GREAT freewheel, the best I have ever owned, It hasnt skipped once and sounds so smooth. Going back to the Echo SL, after soaking it I put it back on my Crank arm but I decided to bed it in again while flushing it with GT85 for about 15 mins, I havn't had any problems with it since. It has gone a funny coppery colour but it looks nice. I would Recommend it to anyone. GREAT SOUND! GREAT ENGAGEMENT! GREAT PRICE! If you can save that little extra, The White Industries ENO Trials. It Rocks.

Hi Taylor - It's normal for the Echo SL freewheel to rattle a little, as the description mentions. However, if you've found dirt/little stones inside there that definitely won't be helping! As it's an open system the SL is more prone to having any debris/dirt entering the engagement mechanism if you ride in any muddy/sandy/wet areas, although stripping the freewheel should usually make them as good as new. Thanks for the review!
awesome!

Been using this freewheel for a week now and I'm already amazed how good it is. Sprayed some GT-85 to speed up the bedding in process, this freewheel has really good engagement and sound, would recommend to anybody, great freewheel.

The first four months of using this freewheel it was spot on then with out warning a pawl snapped and locked the freewheel up , tarty repaired it with no worries :) then two weeks after another pawl snapped and locked it up again again tarty repaired it with no hassle :) , but it skips now and then Tarty bikes service has been excellent :) The freewheel I'm now cautious with.

Hi Martin - I'm sorry to hear you've had so many problems with your freewheel. We've seen instances of pawls breaking in these freewheels before, but to get two breaking so soon after each other is pretty rare! Thanks for the review.

Absolutely amazing! 110%. I recommend running this freewheel in first, no trials, just ride it like a normal bike and then you will have the best freewheel in the world!!!!
The new series

The new serires of this freewheel is interesting. After 2 months my new freewheel skipped more times and has strange sound. One of my friends had an Echo SL freewheel. It broke in half inside after 3 months. Another one of my friends had an Echo SL freewheel too. It became fix after 1 month.

Hi Tamas - It's strange you've had this many problems with freewheels! The SL is our most popular freewheel and we haven't heard of many having problems. The problems we have heard of have usually come from someone riding in the wet/mud with their freewheel then not lubricating it afterwards. The SL freewheels have very little lubricant as standard, so if you ride in the wet then they can often become a little rusty/rough to use. If you use either some spray lube or thin chain oil to lube your freewheel then this will often stop any problems that might occur. There's also no 'new series' of Echo SL 108 freewheel - the only change came about when they altered the extractor tabs from the 8-prong to the 4-slot system, but that was quite some time ago and there was no difference to the 'workings' of the freewheel. Thanks, Mark
Great freewheel.

Mine has not skipped once since buying it 9 months ago. The number of engagements are spot on too. However it doesn't feel as stiff as the Tensile or Monty freewheels that I've owned before this, so there's still room for Echo to improve here!

Hi - A stiff feeling freewheel usually means something isn't quite right, so the fact that the Echo runs smoothly is definitely a good thing!

This freewheel is the only one to have, worth every penny. It will not skip and has more than enough engagements. Excellent quality and reasonably priced!
