Monty Brake Spray

Product code: 2083

Monty Brake Spray

- Great little brake-improving invention from the original BikeTrials brand Monty!
- We've nicknamed this stuff 'Tar in a Can', and it's really useful to improve your brake instantly!
- Brake spray is extremely easy to apply and works great in all conditions.
- The main thing to bear in mind is that you only need a light coating - too much will make your brake worse!
- Simply dry/clean your rim (not compatible with disc brakes) off with a clean tissue or cloth, lift the wheel off the ground and spin it. While its spinning, spray a light coating on the braking surface, and then scrub it round with your brake pads. Wait a few minutes for it to dry and you're away!
- Sold in an easy-to-use single aerosol can. Please note that some cans have a little bit of leakage and this will show on the inside of the packaging - this doesn't affect the product in any way.

Additional Information

Please note that Royal Mail no longer carry aerosols, we can only dispatch this item using our courier services.

Does this actually work as well as it says on the tin? Have you tried this product yourself?

Hi Fred - A few people here have tried it before, but we all prefer to use rim grinds instead of Brake Spray or tar. It does work well, but it does need to be reapplied more frequently than a grind does. Thanks, Mark

How long will a can last (Roughly) and how often does it need applying? Cheers Chris

Hi Chris - How often you need to re-apply it depends on your riding style, the conditions you ride in and so on. If you ride in the dry then you shouldn't need to re-apply it all that often. However, if you ride in the wet that will make it wear off faster. You shouldn't need to use a lot of spray per application so it should last you quite some time. Thanks, Mark

Does this work on a v brake ? :)

Yes, it will, any rim brake. Thanks, Adam

Will this spray work on hydraulic disc brakes?

Hi Sam - This only works with rim brake pads - it's best not to use ANY type of spray on your disc rotors as they can be quite sensitive to contamination, even from what would seem to be relatively 'safe' products. Thanks, Mark

How does this stuff compare to tar and do you still get the "squeek" when it is on your brakes.

Yes, you still get a squeak. It works about as well as tar, but you need to be careful not to put too much on. Regards, Adam

Hi Guy - The can contains 200ml. Unfortunately, we're unable to send these abroad due to customs restrictions. Thanks, Mark

Is this spray as good as a rim grind and is the metal looking object Danny macaskill scraped on his rear rim in Capetown used to grind the rim and if it is were could i get one. Thanks.

Hi Callum - thanks for your question. This spray is about as effective as a grind, but it wears off very quickly and is not as reliable in the wet. A grind is definitely the most reliable method of improving your braking power. The metal thing in the Danny MacAskill video is a spoke key - nothing to do with a grind. To apply a grind, you will need an angle grinder. We have a video tutorial available on our site here: http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/media/guides/maintenance_rim_grinding/m2.html Hope that helps! Thanks, Flipp.
