For beginner intermediate rider like me who still have a higher chance of shinner or hitting the knee on the stem, this protector works very well. A little heavier than just the skin guard. I've already saved my knee twice from the stem and a sharp corner of a rock and also a couple of shinner from pedal slip when learning a new technique. The protector slips in very easily and the silicone cuffs help them stay where you put them. Breaths well on the back side, but may be not ad good on the from where the padding is. The padding is easily removed to run the sleeve in the wash or even daily hand wash.
