- Superb value for money, complete hydraulic disc brake from Shimano!
- Updated lever features a new hinged bar clamp and an updated lever pivot linkage.
- Features Servo Wave action. The pads move further at the start of the stroke, then with increasing power as the brake is applied. This gives better rotor clearance in the 'off' position but more power when the brake is on.
- Post mount caliper allows direct mounting to an increasing number of frames and forks, or can be used with an adaptor on an IS mount. (See Additional Information tab for details.)
- Ready-bled with mineral oil, so it just needs bolting to your bike!
- 170cm (rear) or 100cm (front) Kevlar reinforced hosing saves weight over braided steel alternatives.
- Hinged lever clamp allows fitting and removal of the brake without the need to remove grips.
- Supplied with extra hose fittings for if you decide to cut the hose down, and fixing bolts.
- Rotor and adaptor NOT included.
- Weight: 276g (front brake version, not including bolts).

We have made a disc brake guidance and information sheet which will be very useful if you are not experienced with disc brakes (or even if you are!). We strongly recommend having a look over it before fitting your new brake. This can be downloaded here.

+20 fork = Not possible
+30 fork = Not possible

- 180mm front brake with:
IS fork = 180mm rotor and adaptor F
+20 fork = 180mm rotor and adaptor A

Questions

Hans-Peter Guggenbichler

Hi folks, I have one of these on my new bike. In my opinion this is a great break, but I am missing the 'initial bite'. Can you recommend some break pads or even a break pad / rotor combination which will improve this? Best Regards, Hans-Peter

Hi Hans-Peter - If your brakes are very new, then the initial bite won't come in until they've bedded in more fully. You can speed this process up by pouring some cold, clean water over the pads and rotor, then ride along (on flat ground) pulsing the brake lever on and off. The aim isn't to get the pads/rotor hot, it's simply to scrub the braking surfaces in. You'll usually see the water turn a darker/black colour while this is happening - just repeat the process a few times and you'll usually feel the bite start to improve. In terms of pads/rotors, the standard Shimano SLX rotors seem to be very good. We've heard customers have good results with EBC Red Organic pads with these brakes, so they could be worth a look too, although again the standard pads do tend to give good results once bedded in. Thanks, Mark
