Questions

PDC

I am considering this 3/16" chain to run on a 1/8" sprocket. The ideas are 1) that longer pins / thicker plates means a bigger contact surface, force spread, pressure less, wear less, and 2) a little free room for the chain gives more tolerance towards chainline / less wear. What are your thoughts on this?

Hello!
The K910 has a higher load rating than our other chains so in terms of overall strength it is one of the best out there, but for the majority of riders a conventional size chain will be fine. If you've had problems with breaking a lot of chains in the past then it might be worth considering, but if not a 1/8" chain should be fine.
1/8" chains will still have a little float your sprockets, so as long as your chain line isn't wildly out then that shouldn't be an issue. If your chain line is so far out that you need to run a 9/16" chain to make it run smoothly then it would be worth trying to address that as it will probably be the cause of chain snaps.
It's also worth noting that some sprockets are designed to have the side plates of the chain in more contact with the sprocket to help reduce wear on the sprocket itself, in which case using a wider chain like this would end up making your sprocket wear faster.
Lastly, as this chain is much wider than a conventional chain, you may need to check clearance on any tensioners, bashrings or crank tabs/bosses to make sure that this chain will clear.
Overall, we'd typically recommend sticking with a standard 1/8" chain and replacing it fairly regularly, but if you'd like the extra peace of mind that comes with running an over-sized chain like this, and your bike setup allows it, there's nothing stopping you doing so.

Hey, I'm running a wider 1/8 12tooth sprocket on my hope pro 4 ss hub, would this chain work fine on it? Or should I get the KMC K1, 1/8'' instead? Cheers guys

Hi Corey!
If your sprocket is 1/8", then either the KMC K1 1/8" or KMC Z1 1/8" chains would work fine.
The K910 is somewhat overkill for most riders, so going for one of the 1/8" KMC chains would give you a nice, strong chain without the weight penalty (and potential compatibility issues) of the K910.
